Nice to meet you!
I work with women identifying people who suffer from seemingly odd mood and digestive symptoms. Some of them have not felt good for as long as they can remember. Some recently have started to struggle to wake up in the morning and feel energized or felt energy slumps in the mid afternoon. Some struggle with sluggish extra weight and feel disconnected from their bodies. A thing that most of the people I work with have in common though is that, when they try or have tried to get help, they get told that everything is fine! But still, they know that something must be wrong.
I believe you! There is a way to address the root cause of these symptoms.
First, here is a bit of my story.
I was first exposed to health issues quite early. Almost all my family members had either mental health issues, cancers or autoimmune diseases. I developed migraines and anxiety during my early teenage years and blamed it on the ''bad genes'' I believed I had. Hair loss, exhaustion, depression, acne and weight gain around my hips ensued around my university years but I did not really think anything of it. It was only years later when, after a stressful time, I started developing fibromyalgia like symptoms. I had intense knee pain, then wrists, hips, fingers and shoulders. Later on I developed severe vertigo and crippling fatigue. At that point, I was already a Health coach, Yoga teacher and massage therapist. I felt like I should know how to fix this! I ended up seeking help from rheumatologists, endocrinologists, going to university hospitals and spending thousands of dollars to be told that my results were all good. Some physicians said that I should just eat more. Some said I should eat less. Either way, I felt frustrated and helpless.
I became more interested in functional medicine as I listened to podcasts listing so many of my symptoms. For the first time in a long time, I felt seen. So I decided to seek a Functional medicine training and become certified from the School of applied functional medicine. Of course, it is an exciting step. But when you tried so many things - from vegan diet, vegetarian, gluten free, supplements, exercises, it is also hard to believe that something can finally help you. Slowly applying what I was learning in school though, I was able to gain an understanding of what my body was going through and how to help it heal : High viral load from a reactivated Epstein-Barr virus, hormonal imbalances, maldigestion and an imbalance in gut microbes. The causes of any of these can vary from a person to the other. My ''why'' was mostly from a vicious cycle of maldigesting food and not having enough nutrients to effectively promote a healthy immune response. Addressing beliefs, traumas and a difficulty in allowing myself to rest was and still is a big part of the puzzle.
Through targeted supplementation, diet and lifestyle adjustments and gaining education, I have gotten my life back. Although as anything, healing is a journey and not everything is ''fixed and sorted'', I developed self compassion, resilience and understanding. And I would love to guide you towards the same outcome.
